                      Grammy Award-winner Paul Anthony Joins Moffitt’s National Board of Advisors

    TAMPA, Fla. (March 14, 2017) – Moffitt Cancer Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Grammy Award-winner Paul Anthony to its national Board of Advisors. Anthony joins a prominent group of individuals from across the nation who serve as Moffitt ambassadors and offer their expertise and counsel on issues relating to the cancer center.

 

Anthony is a member of the 1990s R&B music group Full Force. He has received multiple gold, platinum and diamond record plaques and Broadcast Music Incorporated awards. He and Full Force were among the Grammy Award®-winning group of certified songwriters on the Black Eyed Peas’ 2005 hit, “Don’t Phunk With My Heart.”

 

“We are excited to have Paul join this group and bring with him a tremendous enthusiasm for finding a cure for this terrible disease,” said Bob Griese, Moffitt’s Board of Directors chair and former Dolphins Pro Football Hall of Famer quarterback. “He knows how to break through the clutter and deliver the message that we need to support research if we are going to put an end to cancer.”

 

Anthony describes himself as a “cancer champion” and is a survivor of mantle cell lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndrome and acute leukemia. He established The Paul Anthony Foundation and The Paul Anthony Cancer Champions Initiative after his successful bone marrow transplant courtesy of his brother, Lou George Jr. Both organizations support cancer education and research.

 

Anthony, who is credited with bringing bodybuilding, fitness and training to the urban and pop music industry, continues to spread the message of health, inspiring millions over his 30-year career. He joins 31 other prominent figures on Moffitt’s national Board of Advisors.

Actress Vivica A. Fox Joins Moffitt’s National Board of Advisors

 

      TAMPA, Fla. (March 28, 2017) – Moffitt Cancer Center has appointed actress, producer and philanthropist Vivica A. Fox to its national Board of Advisors. Fox joins a prominent group of individuals from across the nation who serve as Moffitt ambassadors and offer their expertise and counsel on issues relating to the cancer center.

 

Fox is no stranger to the national stage. The actress has a long and recognizable career in movies and television. While she is possibly most recognized for her role in the Independence Day films, Fox began her professional acting career with roles on the daytime television soap operasDays of Our Lives and Generations. She later moved to prime time, starring opposite Patti LaBelle in the NBC sitcom, Out All Night. Since then, she has appeared in more than 100 films, including F. Gary Gray’s Set It Off.

 

“We are pleased to have someone of Vivica’s experience on our team,” said Bob Griese, Moffitt’s Board of Directors chair and former Dolphins Pro Football Hall of Famer quarterback. “She has felt the pain of losing loved ones to cancer, and she feels deeply about finding ways to defeat the disease. As a group, we spend a lot of time talking about ways to effectively communicate about the important research being conducted at Moffitt, and I am sure she can weigh in on that.”

 

Currently, the former Dancing with the Stars contestant has a recurring role on Fox's hit television series Empire, and she is co-executive producer and stars in the Lifetime network series Vivica's Black Magic. Fox also owns Vivica Fox Hair Collection, which includes a special line for cancer patients that includes wigs, hats, head wraps and scarves.

Fox also is a member of Moffitt’s George Edgecomb Society, a new program which seeks to raise funds to address cancer health disparities.  Fox joins 32 other prominent figures on Moffitt’s national Board of Advisors.
